Held on the 10th day of the fifth Lunar month, this festival is a newcomer in Khanh Hoa province. The Salangane Festival is held in dedication to the Lady Governor of Salangane Island. The temple was built on Hon Noi Island, with a 5.5m tall statue of the Goddess. According to legend, the Island Governor was a female general officer in the tay Son Navy in the 18th century, who sacrificed her life to protect Salangane Island and Khanh Hoa Sea. The festival in an occasion for salangane collectors to pray for blessings and protection, because collecting salangane nests is a dangerous job with many risks climbing up steep, precarious cliffs. The ceremony also consists of two main parts: a ritual worshipping ceremony and performances, which attract mainly salangane collectors from around the region.
